
Objective: The main objective of the FWC is a cross-border citizens’ mobility and activities within the EU, judicial cooperation in civil matters is likely to keep on developing if citizens are to fully enjoy their rights.
In this context, Altair supported the European Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs with the high quality and independent expertise in the following specific area:
• the EU acquis in the field of general private international law, family law, procedural law, judicial cooperation and training;
• the comparative assessment of national legal systems and case law in the above-mentioned areas, in a field where respect for the different legal systems and traditions of the Member States is crucial, particularly in view of the development of mutual trust;
• the relevant case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union;
• global instruments of private international law (particularly Conventions developed in Open Invitation to tender IP/C/JURI/FWC/2015-002 – ANNEX I – Global terms of reference Page 4 of 14 the context of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), the International Commission on Civil Status (ICCS) and Unidroit) and the way they inter-act with EU rules;
• the political and legal issues at stake on those topics in the European Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affair in the latest and present legislature.
