The Comparative Study of Reparation Mechanisms for International Crimes Starts

Geographic Area: Balkans
Year: 2020

On January 15, the project “Comparative study on reparation mechanisms for international crimes in the Western Balkans” started. This project, financed with funds from the European Union, will be developed over the next six months and its general objective is to provide European leaders with information on the state of harmonization of the laws of the candidate countries (Bosnia, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro and Macedonia) with the acquis communautaire and international agreements on remedies and reparations for victims of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
This study, within the framework of the accession process, will facilitate the Commission’s decision-making regarding the needs, relevance and scope of future reform strategies in the countries benefiting from IPA funds in order to assist them in the accession process.
