
Objective: To support the implementation of the ASEAN community blueprints, drawing on European experience and know-how through sectoral policy dialogue and knowledge development supporting thus the policy development process in non-trade related areas.
Actions:
• Supported the AICHR in an advanced training of trainers on ASEAN human rights mechanisms for ASEAN
member States (AMS) law enforcement officers. The workshop was especially designed for and aimed at building the capacity of the police, immigration officers, judges and prosecutors from AMS on ASEAN human rights mechanisms.
• Provided technical expertise to an AICHR regional workshop on the human rights-based approach to combat trafficking in persons, especially women and children. The event was hosted by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Justice – Inter-agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT). Over 100 delegates from the 10AMS, international organizations and relevant civil society organizations attended the workshop, which focused on developing recommendations to mainstream human rights in ASEAN’s efforts to combat trafficking in persons
• Advanced Programme on Human Rights in Thailand. This training focused on raising awareness and promoting understanding of the concept of human rights, its standards and mechanisms and rights of some specific groups, such as women, children and migrants in the criminal justice system. Participants were composed of representatives from the national police, Attorney General Office/Chamber, Supreme People’s Court, Human Rights Committee, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Law/Justice, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and university educators. All ten AMS were represented.
